Our host seems super pumped to have us. They welcomed us with snacks, dinner, and even decorated their bulletin board with pictures from previous CUS teams. During dinner, a rep from Habitat came and spoke to us and told us about what we would be doing the next day on our build day. After dinner, a bunch of local bike mechanics came and donated their time to look at all of our bikes, fix all of our problems, and basically be the coolest people alive. One of our teammates, Emily Soko, is from Charleston so she set up this awesome rendezvous with the mechanics and everyone was super thankful.
After dinner, we all went out to a concert on the levee (I think) or some body of water. Twas cool. I got a chance to walk around the city with one of my teammates and get to know him a bit better while the music was goin on. Then, most of the team checked out a local brewery, thinking we would take advantage of our later curfew, but by 11ish everyone was super sleepy. Came back to the host, read Blake's blog aloud (http://bikeandbuild.org/rider/route.php?route=CUS&year=2014), died of laughter, and fell asleep to Joyce scratching my head (pretty magical).
We're about to go to our second build site and I'm super jazzed. Our first build day last week was by far one of my favorite points of this trip so far. Woot.
