We crossed into OH today, but it was on a bridge, so no fun pictures this time around. Today's bike ride was more thoughts than stories.
1.) I started out the day reflecting on an old soccer teammate, Lin, who was one of the coolest folks ever. The story I tell most about Lin is that she once broke my wrist at a Friday practice where we were just goofing off playing World Cup. The story I tell least is the one that has stuck with me the most. I've never been an excellent runner, and before I knew about my weird rotated femur problem I thought that it really was simply because I was inadequate at anything athletic, but that's besides the point. The point is that Lin would often finish running at practice and then come back and finish my runs with me. Whether it was suicides or longer campus runs, more times than I can count on one hand, I got to finish with the strongest runner on our team even when I finished last.
These memories of Lin were stuck in my head today, as my knee felt good for the first time in a while and I wanted to sprint through some easy rolling baby hills into Obio this morning, but instead road with one kd our riders who has been fighting the van for days with a knee injury. Three of us stayed at a super easy pace for the first 20 miles and had a grand ol time getting to know each other and celebrating mustache Monday (and getting semi list within the first two miles).

2.) About a week ago, right before our Program Director left us on our own, we asked her for 6 words of wisdom, and she left us with "Get lost out there. Find something" and maybe that was some kind of bullcrap she made up to sound like it meant something, but it kind of has stuck with me theoughout the trip. Today, we got lost. Today, I found a few things. The first thing on today's cue sheet was a warning that not all the roads were properly marked.
Lots of jokes were made and several reroutes occurred throughout the day. We had riders finish with anywhere between the 67 planned miles to a detour of 76 miles. The timing was interesting though, as I've been spending a lot of time talking with people about not knowing where I want to be or what I want to do and just kind of wishing some sign would tell me where to go. That's not going to happen, and that's fine, but today was a reassuring moment where I realized that even without the signs, we make it where we need to be. Cheesy. Whatever. Get over it.
