We woke up an hour earlier than we normally would for build days and had breakfast with some kind of homeless/low income common meal. Afterwards, we hopped on our bikes for 4 miles to the build site, and we're surprised to find the steepest freaking hill we've seen yet leading up the final block to the house. Our team painted, put up porch railing, marked property lines, and had a blast. I found myself doing a lot of interpersonal shtuff throughout the day, which was exhausting but much needed. Oh, and a news crew came and interviewed folks about what we're doing. That was kinda cool.
Showered. Explored. Sat at a coffee shop. Realized I hadn't been drinking water at all right after dinner and crashed hard. After about two hours laying down and feeling miserable and drinking water, I got up and gallavantes around town for an hourish.
Got back to the host and woke up to Dan chatting with the folks around me. So I was wide awake and couldn't stop laughing and I think I woke everyone up. 'Twas worth it. We needed some good fun.
I haven't had time to keep up with and check in with many folks from home at all, but I've still been able to chat with one of my best friends on a semi regular basis. In our conversation yesterday, she told me that I seemed "a lot less negative and a lot more stable" since I've been here. My stress levels are way lower since we've started this trip, and I feel sincerely more optimistic about life in general. For those who have seen me bike & build stressed, just imagine what a nut case I am in real life then. I think I'd like for this bike & build life to be real life forever, but hey, we're only on week 2.
