Columbus To Bloomington

Today felt like a week, but it was (mostly) awesome. After a 100mile ride yesterday, today's 38 seemed like no big deal.

We started off the morning a half an hour late to give everyone some much needed rest. After the late start, some of us got an even later start as we stopped at a cool play place at our first turn on the cue sheet.

With a super short mileage day, lunch was early in Nashville IN, only 20 miles in. Everyone ended up spending at least an hour in town exploring sock shops and other touristy novelty shops. I had no clue that a smaller Nashville could be so cool.

Immediately out of lunch, we hit a pretty steep hill with little time to warm our legs back up. Somewhere along the way we met a man who had set out a water cooler for cyclists because the road we were on is heavily bike trafficked.

At mile 37 (of 38), I was climbing a hill that was definitely not a big deal but the fatigue from yesterday, and the poorly warmed legs of that half of the day caused some issues. A weird, sharp pain hit at the top of the hill, so I pulled over and tried stretching it out, only to make things worse. Pedaled the last mile with my left foot, and figured ice and rest would be good, but after a few hours it was only getting worse so I had to make my first urgent care visit of the summer. Hoping for some suggestions like "hey maybe just stretch this better" or "put some heat on it" I was told to completely avoid putting weight on my leg for a bit and given some stuff for pain, so I'll be driving the van tomorrow and furthering my preexisting perfection of the art of crutches. Fairly bummed that injuries occur this early in the trip, and after thinking about hiding it and riding anyways, several co-leaders and friends reminded me that it's better to miss a day now than a week or month later.

Got back to the host and enjoyed some time just hanging out. Several folks watched A Goofy Movie. We're adults, I swear.
