St Francis KS to Akron(ish) CO

We began the Fourth of July with patriotic music, bandanas, haircuts, and cat shirts.

In the search to be the most patriotic, I asked Ashton to ride with me (because of her cat shirt and American red hair). We skipped coffee and hit the road, therefore we missed the decision to change the route from plan B to plan C.  Missing this memo ended us and a few others on an endless gravel road. 14 miles in, we realized what had occurred and began making our way back to the highway, but had a blast getting stuck in super deep sand, and sharing 3 falls between the 2 of us.

Soon after returning to the glorious placement, we found some friends at the Colorado state line. This was a rather momentous occasion, as all of our state lines have been poorly marked or in dangerous places, so we were pumped to play for a bit. Also, Colorado seems like one of those milestones where we're all realizing how far we've come, so again, it was a good time.

Later in the day a few storms came through, making it hard for everyone to finish by dinner.  With such flat land, it was easy to see lightning that was nowhere close. I hopped in the van with Jay to go help pick up the last of the group, and we got to see a bunch of folks riding hard to finish their day. It was awesome and exciting to see how excited folks were to beat the storm in.

Normally, we would do laundry on this night, but it was super far away and closed early, so Dan and I took a tiny load of necessary items into town and washed them while the rest of the team ate dinner. We got to see a beautiful sunset, and a lightning storm that topped and fireworks show possible. Colorado is beautiful. That is all.
